Wardsboro library gets ready for annual plant sale

WARDSBORO — The Friends of the Wardsboro Library sponsors its annual Memorial Day weekend Plant Sale on Saturday, May 23, at 170 Main St.

Admission and parking are free and the sale proceeds rain or shine. The annual event is a fundraiser for the Friends of the Wardsboro Library, a nonprofit organization that supports the Wardsboro Public Library. (For more details, see www.friendsofwardsborolibrary.org)

The Plant Sale runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and takes place on the front lawn of the Wardsboro Library, the Wardsboro Town Common at Route 100, and Main Street. A large variety of hardy perennials, colorful annuals, shrubs, Gilfeather turnip seedlings, vegetables, and herbs are all reasonably priced for the one-day sale.

Members of the Friends plan to be available to assist gardeners with their selections. Part of the day's sale is a raffle of garden items featuring a handmade stool by woodworker Albert Litchfield of West Townshend, and a hanging basket donated by Walker Farm in Dummerston.

In addition, Erica Bowman, a landscape architect and owner of Andromeda Designs of Jamaica, will be on hand to answer garden and plant questions that shoppers and visitors may have about their plantings and plant purchases.

The Friends are once again promoting an annual “Best Raffle Ever” - this year featuring a Weber E-210 Grill, donated by WW Building Supply of Wilmington. The grill can be viewed on the Friends' website. Print raffle tickets from the website or purchase tickets at the plant sale or the Wardsboro Library.

The winning ticket will be drawn on July 25 at the Friends' “Mountain Hideaways” House and Garden Tour, another fundraiser for the Library group. The prize winner need not be present.

The Wardsboro Library trustees are scheduled to host their annual bake sale in a tent on the Town Common on the same day, beginning at 9 a.m., and lasting until all the homemade items are sold.

On the Common, shoppers will find the Friends' Flower Cart filled with annuals as well as the Bake Sale tent before moving down Main Street to the library lawn for the larger plant sale display. Raffle tickets can also be purchased on the Common for the Weber Grill.
