Solar tours scheduled for Solstice weekend

BRATTLEBORO — Solar projects in communities throughout Vermont will be open for public tours on Saturday, June 20, the weekend of the Summer Solstice.

Like open sugarhouse weekend in the spring and open art studio weekend in the fall, the “Celebrate Solar Tours” will give Vermonters the opportunity to get an up-close view of solar systems to learn about the technology, solar economics, and the benefits of solar to the community.

Solar customers, host farmers, and owners will be on-hand to speak with the public – with many of the sites offering events, also.

In Brattleboro, solar sites open to tour on June 20 include:

• Brattleboro Community Solar array, 8 University Way, providing power for 10 houses and two businesses, open 9 a.m. to noon

• 46 Fairground Rd., a home that incorporates geothermal, solar electric, and solar water and is for sale, open noon to 3 p.m.

• Sunnyside Solar Store, 499 Marlboro Rd., (next to the Chelsea Royal diner).

“The Celebrate Solar! tours highlight the many ways that Vermonters are going solar,” said Paul Cameron, executive director of Brattleboro Climate Protection and organizer of Brattleboro Solar Summer, a campaign to support Brattleboro residents in choosing locally generated, clean, renewable energy.
