Super summer fun abounds at Brooks Library's Children's Room

BRATTLEBORO — There's still time to sign up for the summer reading program in the Children's Room at Brooks Memorial Library. Summer reading program sign-ups continue through Saturday, June 20.

The Children's Room offers three reading programs for children from birth through age 12. Children ages 4 to 9 can join the “Every Hero has a Story” program. Each child sets his or her own goal of how many books to read, or listen to, during the six-week program.

Children ages 10 to 12 can join “Unmask!” Each child sets his or her own goal of how many hours to read during the six-week program. For younger readers, they have their Hero Helpers program for ages birth to 3. Parents and children complete 16 of the 20 early literacy activities to earn a free board book.

The summer fun continues with Unbeatable Bee-zzz on Tuesday, July 7 , from 2 to 3 p.m., presented by Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center and sponsored by the Friends of Brooks Memorial Library. Participants can learn the amazing super strengths of the mighty bee and then build a pollinator home to help bees. Participants must register by June 30.

Residents can meet the people who protect the community during a “Meet your Local Heroes” event on Saturday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to noon. Members of the fire and police departments, public works department, and Rescue Inc., along with their vehicles, will be at the library.

Kids can use their sleuthing skills to help find the stolen medallion at a “Superhero Crime Solvers” event on Tuesday, July 28. There will be two sessions that day: session 1 runs from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and session 2 runs from 2 to 3 p.m. Participants must register by July 21.

Music, humor, and games with super singer Steve Weeks will be on the agenda for Friday, Aug. 7, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

All events are free and open to the public.
