Rotary Club presents pancake breakfast, car show to benefit local charities

BRATTLEBORO — The first Brattleboro on Wheels Cruise-In pancake breakfast and car show, a benefit for local Rotary charities, is planned for Saturday, Aug. 8, in the large paved parking area across from Brattleboro Union High School. Admission to the show is free.

The festivities get under way at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast. Free registration of classic cars, trucks, motorcycles, and other vehicles also starts at 8 a.m.; the show continues throughout the day.

At 8:30 a.m. registration begins for the poker run, a leisurely drive through the area's scenic, mostly paved, back roads. Participants will follow clues to locate five checkpoints. At each stop, the driver will draw a playing card from a deck of cards. At the end of the event, the vehicle with the best poker hand wins! Registration for the poker run is $5 per wheel.

Other events during the day include free car-themed coloring books and crayons for the first 50 children accompanied by an adult. This is supported as part of the national Take a Kid to a Car Show promotion.

Additionally, visitors will find music by radio station WTSA's Tim Johnson, free safety inspections by the Vermont Chapter of the National Hot Rod Association, a 50-50 raffle, and luncheon concessions.

This community event has activities for the entire family, and 100 per cent of the proceeds will go to support area nonprofits.

Vermont Artisan Designs on Main Street is hosting a show of hot rod art by Robert W. Brunelle Jr. during the month of August. A portion of his sales will go to Rotary projects, as well. Brunelle provided artwork for the Brattleboro on Wheels poster.
