• Wyonna Meyer of Guilford, an 11th-grader at Brattleboro Union High School, earned a place in the fall 2015 entering class at Bard College at Simon's Rock in Great Barrington, Mass.

• The following local students are part of the incoming fall 2015 class at Castleton University: James Ameden of Londonderry, Zachary Brooks of Newfane, Casey Gould of Brattleboro, Olson Humphrey of Londonderry, Abigail Lesure of Vernon, Molly O'Callaghan of Brookline, Meghan Powell of Vernon, Emily Sheehan of Londonderry, and Emma Truhan-Swanson of Brattleboro.

• Forrest Lisle of Grafton has started coursework at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo. Lisle's major is adventure education.

School news

• Ethan Lawrence of Grafton graduated from Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Conn. Lawrence was an honor roll student and received History and English department honors. He was a member of the Debate Society and the IT Committee. He also played piano and keyboards in the Jazz Band.

Transitions

• Southeastern Vermont Economic Development Strategies (SeVEDS) recently announced several new additions to its board of directors. Ariel Brooks of Marlboro College will serve as chair of the board for a second year. Peter Yost of Building Green will serve as vice chair. Jill James of Chroma Technologies will continue in her role serving as Board Treasurer. Meg Streeter of Meg Streeter Real Estate in Wilmington will join the leadership team as Secretary. She was elected to the board this spring. Avery Schwenk of Hermit Thrush Brewery in Brattleboro and Luke Stafford of Mondo Mediaworks in Brattleboro were voted onto the board.

• Bonnie K. Dalley, 68, of Bellows Falls. Died on Aug. 24 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. Longtime companion of Timothy Riendeau. Sister of Dale McGivern and her husband, Ron; Ramona Sweat; Gloria Coburn; James Kennett and his wife, Nancy; Wayne Kennett and his wife, Barbara; Wendell Kennett and his wife, Shirley; Donald Kennett and his partner, Judy; and the late Terry Kennett, Judy Colburn, and Elaine LaBounty. Born in Barre, the daughter of the late Gorden and Irene (Lamphere) Kennett, she lived in the Bellows Falls area most of her life. She loved fishing, hunting, camping, and spending time with her family. She worked for years at Walpole Wire, Whitney Blake, and JH Dunning. In her later years, she was a homemaker for several families in the area. MEMORIAL INFORMATION: A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

• Trevor Scott Farrell, 21, of Brookline. Died Aug. 20. Born in Brattleboro, he became the son of Duane Farrell and Lisa Salzbrunn. He attended Burr & Burton Academy. He was a gifted carpenter aspiring to be a master builder. He enjoyed the creative process, and had natural ability beyond that of most, exceeding in life's many challenges where others would crumble and fail. He was an avid snowboarder, often showing his skills at Stratton Mountain. He was a daring dirt bike rider, and loved to fish with his grandfather, go wakeboarding, and do triple flips off the redline at the quarry. He was a free spirit who loved an adventure and took on any challenge presented, the kind of young man that was made for Vermont. He would rather swim in a brook than a swimming pool, and take a ride up a mountain trail than a paved road. In a world of excess, he enjoyed the minimal. He leaves behind a large and loving family of aunts, uncles, grandparents, brothers, sisters, cousins and friends which include: his brother, John Noe and his sister, Lenore Noe of Brookline; grandparents Nancy Farrell of Vernon, Wayne Farrell and Jo Carol Ratti of Brattleboro, and Dennis and Lenore Salzbrunn of Newfane. He also leaves his biological mother, Jackie Bello, half-brother, Blaine Copeland, and half-sister, Josie Russell, of Daytona Beach, Fla. MEMORIAL INFORMATION: A celebration of his life was held on Aug. 29 at the family home in Brookline. Atamaniuk Funeral Home of Brattleboro is assisting the family with arrangements.

• Alexander “Sascha” Kruedener-Struve, Jr., 74, of Jamaica. Died Aug. 21 at his home. Life partner of George S. Hoye of Jamaica for 47 years. Godson of Irene Liszewski of Janesville, Wis. Born in Berlin, Germany, the son of the late Alexander Kruedener-Struve, Sr. of St. Petersburg, Russia, and Soja Vera (Kalnitzky) Zschentzsch of Berlin, Germany, he and his family moved to the United States when he was 10-years-old, settling in New York City. He has been a long-term member of the Screen Actors Guild. He was a baritone and performed with the Village Light Opera Group (VLOG) in New York City, toured as a member of The Don Cossack Chorus and worked as a model and an extra in movies. He later gave up his singing and acting career so he could support his mother, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease at a very young age. He then worked for New York Telephone and NYNEX until he retired in 1995. He was the editor and publisher of Schober Organ Notes and had many hobbies, including photography, collecting and repairing antiques, tube and transistor radios, cameras, clocks, and organs. He was a skilled electrician. He was outgoing, loved people, had a great sense of humor, and loved to give people gifts. MEMORIAL INFORMATION: Committal rites and burial were conducted Aug 27 in South Hill Cemetery in Jamaica. Donations to the American Cancer Society, Vt. • Angeline P. Mozier, 77, of Brattleboro. Died Aug. 23 at Vernon Green Nursing Home after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Wife of Everett (Moe) Joseph Mozier, Jr. Mother of Kelli Rooney of West Chesterfield, N.H., and Michael Mozier of East Dover. Sister of the late Constance A. (Potash) Fleming. Born in Brattleboro, the daughter of Gertrude (Kazmeirczak) and the late Frances Potash, she graduated from Brattleboro Union High School in the Class of 1956 and attended college in Boston. She worked many years at the Putney Paper Mill alongside her parents and grandparents. She was a tremendous cook and loved to entertain. Her passion for food and entertaining followed her into the restaurant business as co-owner with her husband in various restaurants over the years, right up until the sale of Henry David's in Keene in 1988, when she retired. • Margaret Louise (Bodine) O'Neil, 91, formerly of Bellows Falls. Died Aug. 22 at The Card Home in Willimantic, Conn., after a brief illness. Wife of the late Robert Michael O'Neill. Mother of Harry and his wife, Mary of Columbia, Conn.; Peggy Stygar and her husband, Glenn of Lebanon, Conn.; Thomas and his wife, Laurie Alberts, of Westminster; Madeline O'Neill-Lewis of Willimantic; and Mary Ellen Haseltine and her husband, Matthew, of Chester, Vt. Sister of the late Marion Jette and Doris Tatro. Also survived by 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Born in Bellows Falls, daughter of the late Clarence and Marjorie (Hunt) Bodine, she raised her family in South Windham, Conn., and, in her later years, lived at Mago Point in Waterford, Conn., subsequently retiring to The Card Home. She is a graduate of Bellows Falls High School in Vermont. She attended St. Mary's Hospital for Nursery Nurses in New York City and Castleton State College in Vermont. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse, worked at Fraser's Nursery and was employed by The Card Home for nearly 20 years before retiring a few months ago. She was a Brownie Scout leader at Natchaug School and was a 4-H Leader in the Windham area for many years. She was a volunteer at Windham Community Memorial Hospital and The Card Home. She was also a member of the hand bell choir at the First Congregational Church, where she was an active member since 1964. Her hobbies included reading, playing scrabble, cooking, watching Jeopardy, gardening and knitting. She knitted more than 140 Christmas stockings for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and extended family members. Her greatest joy was her family and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. Some of her happiest times were the more than 50 years she spent camping with her family at Camp Wabbaquassett in Eastford, Conn. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with her friends at The Card Home. MEMORIAL INFORMATION: A funeral service was held on Aug. 29 at the First Congregational Church in Willimantic, with interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Windham, Conn. • John Louis Pichette, 91, of Guilford. Died Aug. 21 at his home. Husband of Madeline “Billie” Freeman Pichette for 67 years. Father of Joseph Pichette and his wife, Rebecca, of West Brattleboro and Donna Phinney and her husband, Robert, of Alstead, N.H. Brother of Albert Pichette of Port Charlotte, Fla., Annette Seaman of Wautagh, N.Y., and the late Lorraine Gembarowski. Born in Rutland, the son of the late Albert and Caroline (Buley) Pichette, he was raised and educated in Montpelier and later graduated from St. Michael's High School in Brattleboro, Class of 1942. He proudly served his country in the Army during World War II, stationed in the European Theater of Operation prior to his honorable discharge from active service. A former resident of Brattleboro for 30 years, he had been employed as a postal clerk at the Brattleboro Post Office, retiring in 1984 following 34 years of faithful service. He had held membership in the National Association of Federal Employees, and AARP. He was also a member of the B.P.O. Elks, Brattleboro Lodge #1499, the Knights of Columbus, Leo Council 917, and held membership in American Legion Post 5 and VFW Carl M. Dessaint Post 1034. He was a longtime communicant of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church. He enjoyed travel, woodworking and was an avid reader. He and his wife were best friends and inseparable companions. MEMORIAL INFORMATION: A funeral Mass was held Aug. 25 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, with committal rites and burial with full military honors in Christ Church Cemetery in Algiers. • Mary Ellen (Snow) Boutwell Rice, 82, of Northfield, Mass. Died Aug. 19 at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, Mass. Life partner of Robert Barry. Mother of Ruth Ann (Boutwell) Baker and her life partner, Michael Neumann, of Northport, N.Y.; Deborah Lee (Boutwell) Moran and her husband, John “Jack” of Kingston, N.H.; Michelle Lynn (Rice) Estabrook and her husband, David, of Northfield, Mass.; Douglas Allen Boutwell and his life partner, Renee Phaneuf, of Deerfield, N.H.; Roger Wayne Boutwell of Greenfield; and Steven Joel Boutwell of Southampton, Mass. Sister of Maxine Coughlin and Elizabeth Harris, both of Brattleboro. Also survived by eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Born in Westfield, Mass., the daughter of Max and Mary Elinor (Whitney) Snow, she attended Greenfield High School. She was a housekeeper for many years at the Linden Hill School, and was previously employed by the Weldon Hotel and the Northfield Inn. She was a collector of many things with her most recent passion being dolls. She loved gardening, visiting cathedrals, Elvis, dancing, old movies, a variety of music from country to Pat Boone to Judy Garland, decorating the house during the various holidays, cats, and visits with her family. MEMORIAL INFORMATION: A funeral service was held Aug. 31 at Kostanski Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Donations to the Dakin Humane Society, 163 Montague Road, Leverett, MA 01054.

• Stephena Constance Jurkoic Zielinski, 95, of Bellows Falls. Died Aug. 26. Wife of the late Joseph Zielinski. Mother of Virginia Paige (Edmund), Marie Nemkovich (Dale) and William Zielinski. Sister of Helen Anderson, Anthony Jurkoic, and the late Lottie Green, Lillian DeLouis, Stella Kissell, and Dr. Joseph Jurkoic. Companion of the late Woodrow Shaw. Also survived by six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren. Born in Bellows Falls, the daughter of the late Raphael and Bronislawa Jurkoic, she married Mr. Zielinski on July 4, 1938. She worked at the Tannery, Liquidometer, and then Simmons Precision until retiring at age 70. She liked to crochet and made afghans for family and friends and did various crafts. She met with her co-workers Mabel, Nellie, Ginny, Judy and others the first Wednesday of each month for lunch and then dessert at her house. Polka and country music kept her feet tapping and her hands clapping. MEMORIAL INFORMATION: A funeral Mass was held Aug. 29 at St. Charles Church in Bellows Falls, with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Westminster.
