Town moves forward in quest for administrator

VERNON — The town is making progress in its search for a town administrator, and the next step may be contracting with the Vermont League of Cities and Towns (VLCT) to provide enhanced assistance.

Selectboard member Michael Courtemanche told the board at its Aug, 17 regular meeting he had spoken with VLCT Municipal Assistance Center Director Abigail Friedman for guidance on the search, including creating a job description.

Courtemanche said Friedman told him the VLCT can assist the town with their search, but those services are separate from the league's contract with Vernon.

Hiring a town administrator is a “great undertaking,” Courtemanche said, noting nobody on the Selectboard is an “HR professional."

Chair Christiane Howe reminded the board, “if we did advertising on our own, it would still cost us money."

Courtemanche said the VLCT offered to send a representative to Vernon to present on those services.

The board unanimously voted, minus Josh Unruh who was absent, to accept their offer of a visit.
