BRATTLEBORO — The Hilltop Montessori School, along with its partners Guilford Sound and the Catherine Dianich Gallery, are waiting for eleven guest quilters from Gee's Bend, Ala.

There will be a Gala Gallery Opening Reception on Thursday, Oct. 1, at 6 p.m., at the Catherine Dianich Gallery in downtown Brattleboro.

Gala attendees will have the opportunity to quilt a Gee's Bend quilt alongside Gee's Bend quilters, be the first to view the Gee's Bend quilt exhibit, and meet the amateur actors who will be performing in the play, Gee's Bend. The playwright Elyzabeth Gregory Wilder will also be in attendance.

At 7:30 p.m., there will be a screening of the film The Quilts of Gee's Bend with a question-and-answer period afterwards with local filmmaker Vanessa Vadim.

In addition to the Gala Reception, the Dianich Gallery will be open on Gallery Walk, Friday, Oct. 2. There will be two screenings of the film at 6 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. at the Hooker Dunham Theater, and a photo exhibit by Hilltop Montessori middle school teacher and artist Finn Campman at the River Gallery School's new space next to the Latchis.

Three performances of the play, Gee's Bend will be staged at Hilltop Montessori School's new Arts Barn Friday at 8 p.m., and Saturday Oct. 3, at 4 and 8 p.m. On Saturday morning, Wilder will host a roundtable discussion with cast members of Gee's Bend at 10 a.m. at the Dianich Gallery as part of the Brattleboro Literary Festival.
