Highway Dept. to replace guard rails, build new salt shed

GRAFTON — GRAFTON - A proposal was approved on Oct. 5 to replace 1,500 feet of guardrails on Route 121 by Lafayette Highway for $16,184.50.

The price represents a cost reduction, because the Highway Department will be using some of the town's materials.

The new salt shed construction bid was awarded to Iron Horse, which returned a proposal of $30,500, which includes the installation. No time line for construction has been submitted yet, according to the Oct. 19 minutes.

Bids sought for village pump house demolition

GRAFTON - Town Administrator Rachel Williams informed the Selectboard on Oct. 19 that bids to demolish the old village pump house on Kidder Hill Road are now being accepted.

The structure was damaged by Tropical Storm Irene in 2011 and eventually bought from the owner by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The demolition process includes asbestos and lead paint testing, asbestos abatement, septic pumping, power and communication line removal, and heating fuel and tank removal.

The demolition bids are due Friday, Oct. 30. The demolition must be completed by Dec. 24, 2015.
