Investigators: arson caused Brattleboro blaze

Police offer $5,000 reward for information

BRATTLEBORO — Fire investigators now say that a Nov. 7 apartment fire was deliberately set.

The morning fire at the 12-unit building on Valgar Street drove 45 people from their homes and destroyed four apartments. Six of the units have since been reoccupied.

Investigators from Brattleboro Police, Vermont State Police, and the Brattleboro Fire Department said last week that they found multiple spots where the fire started, but will not say what was used to start the fire since the investigation is still in progress.

They say there are multiple persons of interest.

Since the fire, more than 40 people have been interviewed by the Brattleboro Police Criminal Investigation Unit, according to Detective Erik Johnson.

A $5,000 reward is offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.

Police ask anyone who might have seen or heard something suspicious to call Johnson at 802-257-7930.
