Investigation continues into Valgar Street fire

BRATTLEBORO — After a month of investigation, authorities still are searching for new leads regarding the Nov. 7 arson fire that caused extensive damage to four apartments at 16-38 Valgar St.

In a news release on Dec. 7 from Fire Chief Michael Bucossi and Police Chief Michael Fitzgerald, a statement noted that the joint investigative effort by the Brattleboro Police and Fire Departments “continues to be very active.”

The release noted that both agencies, with assistance from Vermont State Police, “have been working persistently since the morning of the fire, conducting dozens of interviews to gather information about the incident.”

The agencies are again asking that anyone who may have seen anything unusual before the time of the fire, or who may have any information about the fire, call the Brattleboro Police Department at 802-257-7946 or the Brattleboro Police Tips Hotline at 802-251-8188.

There is also up to a $5,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest and conviction by calling 1-800-32-ARSON (1-800-322-7766).

The four-alarm fire took place in a 12-unit, multi-family dwelling, displacing 45 residents. There were no injuries.

The building is owned by the Spring Elliot Valgar Ltd Partnership.
