Third Auditor appointed

GUILFORD — GUILFORD - After the Selectboard agreed in November to “pound the pavement” in search of a third town auditor to join Neil Quinn and Cathi Wilkin, their efforts paid off.

Jim Haine expressed his interest in the position, and at the Dec. 28 regular Selectboard meeting, the board unanimously voted to appoint him as town auditor. His term will end at Town Meeting.

Haine, whom board member Anne Rider described as “a long-time community member,” has also filed a petition to run for town auditor for the term beginning with Town Meeting day.

“I'm thrilled that Jim has stepped up to do this,” Rider told her colleagues at the board meeting. She added, “I think he'll be a great addition and a good person to have as one of the auditors."

Town chooses reassessment contractor

GUILFORD - Jeremiah Sund, assessor clerk at the town's listers office, spoke to the Selectboard at its Dec. 28 meeting about the upcoming town-wide reassessment.

Sund presented the board with a spreadsheet with details on every company on the state's approved contractors list. From that, Sund said he and the other listers narrowed the companies down to five, with ARGI Financial Group rising to the top according to the town's purposes.

The state recommends a town-wide reassessment every 10 years or so, Sund said, noting it can happen sooner than that if certain conditions are present, but Guilford's reassessment is part of the ten-year schedule. He said the listers office agrees it should be done.

Board Chair Sheila Morse asked the listers for a comprehensive budget for the project.

The Selectboard unanimously voted to hire ARGI, and instructed the listers to continue negotiating contract terms with the company.
