Halifax residents offer presentation on Pacific Coast Trail hike

HALIFAX — The Halifax Community Club and the Whitingham Free Public Library are sponsoring “Wild Spirit Walking” at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 7, at the Halifax Community Hall.

In 2015, Halifax residents Meggie Stoltzman and Patrick Wilkins took a sabbatical from their organic farm, Hermit Thrush Homestead (www.hermitthrushhomestead.com), to hike the Pacific Crest Trail.

The 2,650-mile Trail runs along the Sierra Nevada and Cascade mountain ranges from Mexico to Canada. Stoltzman's and Wilkins' through-hike began in mid-April and continued until late-August, averaging about 25 miles a day.

They will use photographs to illustrate the ups and downs of the endeavor, including enduring the elements, the majesty of the American West, the struggle of on-trail illness, and the helpfulness of humanity found all along the way. They will also answer questions about the trip and the trail.

The Halifax Community Hall, located at 20 Brook Road in West Halifax, is wheelchair accessible and has an accessible bathroom. The presentation is free and open to the public. There is a suggested voluntary donation of $5. All donations will be applied to a winter heat fund to enable the club to host other programs year-round in the historic hall.

The hall will be open early, at 6:30 p.m., to give neighbors an opportunity to socialize, and hot beverages will be available.
