River Gallery School goes ‘off the wall’ for a 40th anniversary fundraiser

BRATTLEBORO — As part of its 40th birthday celebration year, River Gallery School of Art presents fundraiser, “Off the Wall,” an art lottery, on Saturday, March 19, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Brattleboro's new event venue, 118 Elliot.

In this lottery, more than 75 paintings from artists near and far have been donated in support of the school. Artists such as Petria Mitchell, Mallory Lake, Ric Campman, and Barbara Campman, as well as the RGS faculty have work represented.

Those interested can drop by the school or visit rivergalleryschool.org, to preview art and purchase tickets. Artwork is added daily. A $100 ticket allows the bearer to choose a piece of art “off the wall,” based on his or her lottery number. Organizers encourage visitors to arrive on time and list their favorites to be ready to make their choice when their number comes up.

For non-participating guests, it is $25 to enjoy refreshments, music, and the art lottery in action.

River Gallery School was founded in 1976 as a place for children “to come after school to be guided and nurtured in creativity,” according to a news release. Now serving all ages with a full roster of classes and workshops, the school has studios upstairs at 32 Main Street and new studio and gallery space below. It's also an accessible space that is available to the community for events and classes.
