Stone Church Arts presents Magical Strings with Philip and Pam Boulding

BELLOWS FALLS — Stone Church Arts presents the Celtic duo, Magical Strings, in concert Saturday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m.

Magical Strings centers around the Celtic harp and hammered dulcimer of Philip and Pam Boulding from Seattle. The concert will take place in the Chapel at Immanuel Episcopal Church, the stone church on the hill, at 20 Church St. in Bellows Falls.

At times Philip and Pam Boulding augment their harp and dulcimer with violin, cello, pennywhistle, percussion and various instruments from around the world. Over the years their sound has drawn a large and loyal following captivated by a combination of traditional Celtic arrangements, original compositions and subtle world-music influences.

Their virtuosity and expressive style have been described as “warm, graceful and sonically gorgeous” by The Washington Post.

Since 1980, Magical Strings has recorded 18 albums on Flying Fish/Rounder, EarthBeat Records, and their own label, Magic Hill Music. Their more recent CD, featuring the family quartet Where Dragons Dance appears on Allegro's Alula Visions label.

The Bouldings run the well-known School of Magical Strings, inspiring students of the Celtic harp and hammered dulcimer since 1978. They design and manufacture instruments for an international clientele and continue to host the annual Magic Hill Summer Harp Camp on their property.
