Big plans for Hidden Acres

DUMMERSTON — DUMMERSTON - David Hiler visited the April 13 regular Selectboard meeting to notify town officials of the pending purchase he and his business partners, Amy and Tim Brady, are making of Hidden Acres Campground.

Hiler told the Selectboard that he and the Bradys are taking over immediately, signing a short-term lease with the current owners until the sale is complete. According to Hidden Acres' website, the campground opens for the season on May 12.

The three partners, who own Whetstone Station Restaurant and Brewery, plan to maintain most of the features of the campground, such as the ice-cream stand and snack bar, Hiler said. He noted the campground will continue welcoming local church and social groups and sports teams for events.

Planned changes include “increasing marketing,” raising “the caliber of services,” and sprucing up the pool, the miniature golf course, and the recreation hall, Hiler told the Board.

He said the group also plans to make further improvements in subsequent years, including applying for a beer-and-wine catering license for campers and event attendees. Hiler assured the Board the group has no interest in opening a bar on the premises.

Dump-truck bid awarded

DUMMERSTON - During his Roads Report, Highway Foreman Lee Chamberlin reviewed the bids the town received for a new dump truck.

The Selectboard unanimously voted to award J&B Truck Center the bid of $132,202 for a Western Star dump truck.

“Do we have keys for that new truck?” Board Chair Zeke Goodband asked Chamberlin.

“It's an automatic [transmission], so Zeke can drive it,” Board member Jerelyn Wilson quipped.

“I can drive a stick!” Goodband assured his colleagues.
