WKVT presents ‘A Call to Action: Child Welfare’ on June 16

BRATTLEBORO — WKVT Radio will present a live broadcast of a public forum about child welfare in the community from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, in the Brooks Memorial Library Meeting Room at 224 Main St, according to a news release.

This is the latest edition of the station's “Call to Action” series, which brings local and state officials together with individuals and organizations to create awareness around a critical issue and seeks to foster greater collaboration in addressing community needs.

WKVT station manager and Classic Hits 92.7FM morning host Peter “Fish” Case said in a news release that the previous two forums about opiate addiction and mental health received very positive feedback.

“Many people who attended told us afterward they learned about an aspect of the issue they hadn't considered before or heard about a resource they didn't know existed,” Case said.

Case will co-moderate the forum with Chris Lenois, host of the local talk radio program, “Green Mountain Mornings” that airs from 6 to 9 a.m. on WKVT 100.3FM and 1490AM.

Panelists include state Rep. Mike Mrowicki (D-Putney), who serves on the House Human Services Committee; Susan O'Brien, District Director for the Vermont Department of Children and Families; and Alyssa Todd, executive director of Windham County Safe Place and Child Advocacy Center.

Members of the public who attend will be given ample opportunity to comment and ask questions, and will have a chance to continue discussion on the topic following the broadcast, according to the release.

Brattleboro Community Television will tape the forum to air at a later date on their cable channels and will archive it online at www.brattleborotv.org.
