Guilford briefs

Unlicensed dogs, beware

GUILFORD — GUILFORD - Town Administrator Katie Buckley presented a list of unlicensed dogs to the Selectboard at their June 13 regular meeting.

Buckley said Town Clerk Penny Marine compiles the list every year after May 31 and transfers it, via the Board, to the town dog officer.

“It's in the dog officer's authority to destroy any dogs that aren't licensed,” Buckley said, adding, “it has never been done, that I know of, in Guilford's history.”

“It's just a formality,” Buckley said.

Board members looked at the list, noted some changes to the roster including dogs who no longer reside in Guilford, and signed the warrant.

Hale Road Bridge replaced in record time

GUILFORD - At the June 13 regular Selectboard meeting, Road Commissioner Dan Zumbruski announced the completion of the Hale Road Bridge replacement during the “Highway Report” portion of the event.

The contractors “started on Monday... [and] by Tuesday afternoon the bridge was in, and we had traffic open by Wednesday at noontime,” Zumbruski said. Some Board members expressed their delight at how quickly the project was completed.

“It's all done and complete and it came out good,” Zumbruski added, pointing out the new bridge is “almost a foot wider” than the old one.

Board member Gabby Ciuffreda noted how helpful the electronic signs were in announcing the detour during construction. Zumbruski said the cost of the signs was money well spent.

Board member Gordon Little twice mentioned the smooth transition from the road to the bridge deck.

Little also praised Zumbruski and his crew for working closely with the bridge's abutters to inform them of project details, including service and utility interruptions.
