NEWFANE — The NewBrook Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department has taken delivery of its newest major piece of firefighting apparatus, a Pierce FXP Tanker. The truck, manufactured at the Pierce plant in Bradenton, Fla., arrived at the NewBrook fire station on Route 30 in Newfane in early July, according to a news release.
The new tanker is built on a Freightliner tandem-axle chassis and has a 350 horsepower Cummins ISL engine. It can carry 3,000 gallons of water. It has a main pump with a capacity of 1,000 gallons per minute.
NewBrook Fire Chief Todd Lawley said in the news release that he is confident the new tanker will greatly assist the department's efforts by giving firefighters their own water supply until water can be brought from other sources.
He said a modern tanker is an essential piece of equipment for any rural fire department.
The new tanker's cost is $275,000, some of which has been set aside from NewBrook's funds, the balance coming from a dedicated fundraising effort in the Newfane–Brookline community.
