Humorist to speak at library fundraiser

DOVER — Humorist Megan Price, author of the “Vermont Wild: Adventures of Fish & Game Wardens” books, will share secrets behind her best-selling, true game-warden series at Dover Library's annual Dessert Social Fundraiser on Thursday, Aug. 11, at 7 p.m., in the Dover Town Hall, according to a news release.

The event marks the 25th anniversary of this popular event. Admission is by donation. Delicious desserts donated by local bakers, inns, and restaurants will be served following the author's presentation.

According to the news release, Price's best-selling Vermont books are populated by “zany warden encounters with ravenous bears, charging moose, hard-headed hunting dogs, and countless wily poachers.” Each book is a collection of short stories told by former conservation officers who patrolled the Green Mountains enforcing the law and protecting wildlife.

Their adventures are occasionally harrowing but always have a humorous vein. The wardens must outwit fearsome critters and clever poachers to do their job.

Price has been termed a “folklore artist” for her ability to ferret out woodsmen with great adventures and then write their stories in a way that make them entertaining reading for all ages. There's no profane language or gratuitous violence in the stories and the books are used in schools by teachers and taken to hunting camps.

“Vermont Wild” has been featured on Vermont Public Radio and has twice earned a mention on the nationally recognized Publisher's Weekly website. The books are available at Bartleby's Books in Wilmington, many gift shops, and online at VermontWild.com. Price will be available to sign and sell her books at the fundraiser following her talk.
