Gallery Walk features songs celebrating rivers

BRATTLEBORO — To support From the River, To the River, The Brattleboro River Valley Strummers will perform an acoustic set of river songs during Gallery Walk on Friday, Sept. 2, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the new riverfront park on Depot Street overlooking the Connecticut River.

Singing along is welcomed, and songs about rivers will include “Proud Mary,” “Down By the Riverside,” “Deep River Blues,” and some originals, according to a news release.

The Strummers include Johnny (Ungerleider) Rivers, Bill (Conley) Rivers, Ella (Bogdanoff) Rivers, Eben (Viens) Rivers, Bruce (Dayton) Rivers, Tommy (Grasso) Rivers, and Mike (Nieckoski) Rivers.

From the River, To the River is a public arts project funded through a National Endowment for the Arts grant awarded to Brattleboro. Local artists Evie Lovett, Elizabeth Billings, and Andrea Wasserman created the public space and art in the river park and at the Brattleboro Transportation Center.

“We had this idea of bringing the community to the river and the river to the community,” Wasserman said in the news release. “About how that connection could be recognized and be uplifting to underutilized spaces within the town."

Community members are invited to join in the collaboration by sharing their interactions with the river and the artwork on the project's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/fromtherivertotheriver and by posting their photographs to Instagram with the hashtag #fromtherivertotheriver.
