Cause of speeding lies with society

HALIFAX — I wonder how many of the people who live in the Broad Brook area speed along that road and other area roads?

After state police monitored the Center Road in Broad Brook and found only one car doing 1 mph over the posted speed limit, it seems to me that locals are the ones doing the speeding.

The covered bridge has been closed all summer and people driving the detour through Halifax have no problem speeding on the winding dirt road of Deer Park to get to Brattleboro. I've noticed with ownership of smaller, fuel-efficient cars people tend to go faster.

Lowering the speed limit to 35 mph on Center Road will only increase speeding, as people will still do 45 mph or more on that road.

Speeding will always be an issue in this fast-paced society, along with texting while driving. Maybe people who are headed to work or school should allow the appropriate time for the commute so speeding won't be necessary.

We all should slow down and enjoy the ride on these back country roads.
