Luminous Crush marks release of record with Wardsboro show

WARDSBORO — On Saturday, Sept. 17, Luminous Crush will perform in Wardsboro to celebrate the release of the band's album, “Lumina.”

Members Ben Campbell and Laura Molinelli are just as at home with acoustic guitars and mandolins as they are with drum kits and amplifiers, and it will be the amplified band coming to Wardsboro's Town Hall - the first of several release shows around the state, according to a news release.

Luminous Crush is composed of Molinelli on vocals and guitar/ukulele, Campbell on vocals and guitar, Christian Heins on bass, and Adam Barker on drums. Molinelli, Campbell, and Heins are also members of the southern Vermont-based bluegrass band The Bondville Boys.

The songs on Lumina were composed by Molinelli and Campbell last winter. Though they love playing bluegrass, both grew up listening to rock and pop. Luminous Crush provides them with an alternative creative musical outlet.

Multi-instrumentalist Campbell toured for two years with Circus Smirkus as a member of the House Band and has collaborated with a number of Vermont's musical luminaries, including Anais Mitchell, Michael Chorney, and Caleb Elder.

Singer/songwriter Molinelli has been a part of the New York and New England music scene for the past 15 years. She has released five albums, and shared the stage with Lucinda Williams, Dar Williams, The Band, NRBQ, The Samples, Rebecca Hall, Lou Gramm (former lead singer for Foreigner), and “The Legendary Lead Singers of the Temptations.”

Lumina is fully self-produced; CDs will be available at the Sept. 17 concert. Available only at the record release shows will be a limited number of vinyl editions.
