Brattleboro celebrates Last Night 2016

BRATTLEBORO — On Saturday, Dec. 31, Brattleboro's Last Night Committee will present a fun-filled and substance-free day of celebration for New Year's Eve.

According to a news release, the day kicks off with a Senior Potluck Luncheon at the Brattleboro Senior Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with featured musical guests “Sing, Sing, Swing.” The day will also include the following:

• From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., KidsPLAYce will offer toddler and preschool free play. For more information, call 802-254-5212.

• Sleigh and hay rides will be offered at Fairwinds Farm on Upper Dummerston Road (no dogs please) from 1 to 4 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children up to 12 years.

• The children's program this year features Sandglass Theater's presentation of Puncshi!, a live puppet show for ages 1-6, from 4 to 5 p.m., at the Brattleboro Retreat's Educational Conference Center. Admission is free with the donation of a nonperishable food item for Project Feed the Thousands.

• Brattleboro Bowl will offer children's bowling runs from 2 to 4 p.m. at $8 per bowler for shoes, popcorn, and cider. All-Ages Bowling runs will be offered at 5 p.m. or 7 p.m. The $52 cost per lane includes two hours of bowling, shoes, pizza, soda, party favors, music, and a light show. • The Brattleboro Kiwanis Club is again sponsoring free skating at Living Memorial Park from 6 to 9 p.m., with door prizes and hot chocolate.

• New this year is a Teen Rock Bands Concert at the Boys & Girls Club on Flat Street, featuring local youth bands. The concert is $5 for students and $10 for adults. The music starts at 9 p.m. and runs until 12:30 a.m. The concert is free, with games, food, “countdown frenzy,” and more.

• The Amidon, Murphy, and Tracy families, with special guests Emily Miller and Jesse Milnes, present their annual concert at the First Baptist Church on Main Street from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 6-14, and free for children 5 and under.

After the concert, families can head down to the West River to watch the fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. over the Retreat Meadows.
