Photographer Nicki Steel displays work

WILMINGTON — Bartleby's Books is hosting its annual exhibit of Nicki Steel photography for the month of February.

Steel will be showing her popular “Hearts in Nature” series of photos, as well as new material from 2016.

Steel describes this past year as her “year of the birds.” She spent seven weeks in Marlboro, photographing 13 great blue herons as they grew from newly hatched chicks to fledglings. She also spent time taking pictures of the loons which nested on Lake Raponda, as well as bluebirds, hummingbirds, and indigo buntings, in addition to new landscapes, according to a news release.

Also included in the show will be Steel's popular “Hearts in Nature” series of work, a collection of heart-themed photographs that is continually growing.

As the artist explains, “This series really combines things that I treasure ... love of nature and love of photography and, while perfect for Valentine's Day, these photos appeal to the senses any time of year!”

Fans of Steel's work will have an opportunity to meet the her at Bartleby's during that weekend's Apres-Ski After Three program organized by Wilmington Works. Come to chat and share light refreshments at the artist's reception on Saturday, Feb. 11, from 4-5 p.m.
