Bus! Stop!
DUMMERSTON — DUMMERSTON - Observant travelers along Upper Dummerston Road will notice some new signs warning of a school bus stop ahead.
During the “Road Foreman's Report” portion of the Jan. 18 regular Selectboard meeting, the Board unanimously voted to approve of new bus stop signs on the northbound and southbound sides of the road.
Board Chair Zeke Goodband told his colleagues Road Foreman Lee Chamberlin is “okay with it.” Board members noted the bus route is already established - these signs are there to warn drivers of the stop.
EMD needs assistant
DUMMERSTON - Emergency Management Director Dawn Hubbard seeks a part-time assistant, and the Selectboard agreed to help find one.
At the Jan. 18 regular Selectboard meeting, Board members discussed advertising for the position, noting it pays a modest stipend.
“The Assistant Emergency Management Director assists in developing, organizing, directing and coordinating the town's Emergency Management Program with the goal of saving lives and protecting property by maintaining emergency operational capabilities that mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from any emergency or disaster,” the job description says.

Board approves Highway Mileage Certificate
DUMMERSTON - In keeping with a yearly ritual, the Selectboard approved of the Highway Mileage Certificate issued by the state Agency of Transportation's Mapping Section.
Dummerston has nearly 80 miles of roads; 51 of them are dirt, 12 miles are paved, and 16 miles are state roads.
“Town highway mileage must be documented for the purpose of allocating the legislature's appropriation of annual town highway aid,” says the Agency's website. The state Agency of Transportation also uses this information to produce maps and data for public and governmental use.
Selectboards must certify town highways and legal trails by Feb. 10 of each year, and the certificate, including any changes, must go to the Agency's Mapping Section by Feb. 20.
