Marlboro launches public lecture series on international issues

BRATTLEBORO — On Friday, Feb. 10, at 7:30 p.m., the Windham World Affairs Council launches a six-part Marlboro/WWAC International Lecture Series to be held in the Marlboro College Graduate Center at 28 Vernon St. This series will feature distinguished speakers who will address issues such as American diplomacy, development aid, and nuclear disarmament.

The first speaker will be Kevin Quigley, president of Marlboro College, who will speak on “Peace Corps and Community Service: An Idea Whose Time Has Come Again?”

Coffee, tea, and conversation about Peace Corps opportunities will precede the talk at 6:30 p.m. The talk will be followed by a question and answer period.

Quigley, the ninth president of Marlboro College, began serving in July 2015. Before coming to Marlboro, he served as Peace Corps country director in Thailand, and as president and CEO of the National Peace Corps Association, a global alumni organization for the more than 225,000 former Peace Corps staff and volunteers.

He has degrees from Swarthmore College, National University of Ireland, Columbia University, and Georgetown University. He has been a Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow at 12 liberal arts colleges from 2004 to 2012, and a faculty-practitioner graduate instructor teaching about international studies and management from 1995 to 2011.

He is the author of For Democracy's Sake: Foundations and Democracy Assistance in Central Europe (Johns Hopkins University Press) and has published extensively on international and service issues.
