Boys & Girls Club of Brattleboro set to participate in third year of STEM programs

BRATTLEBORO — For the third year in a row, The Boys & Girls Club of Brattleboro on Flat Street is offering a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) Mentoring Program for youth 6 to 9 years old.

This program will be held throughout the 2017 calendar year, according to a news release.

STEM Mentoring is a program that brings together youth and adults for hands-on activities, projects, and multimedia connections. It is designed to have a positive influence on youth's social development and academic success.

The goal is to bring together mentors and mentees in a range of STEM topics that focus on conservation. The program involves weekly group mentoring sessions that introduce youth to scientists, engineers, and conservationists who all come from different careers and educational backgrounds.

The club says STEM Mentoring has been shown to reduce high-risk behavior, improve academic success, and increase knowledge about science, technology, engineering, and math. The program also exposes youth to careers and educational pathways that they might not otherwise be aware of.
