Lottery benefits art school

BRATTLEBORO — River Gallery School is hosting its second annual “Off the Wall” Art Lottery on March 11 at 118 Elliot Street from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

According to a news release, local artists and collectors donate artwork for the event (some are from well-known artists, others not-so-famous but wonderful nonetheless) and every participating ticket holder will get to leave with a painting, drawing, or print with a value of at least $100.

On arrival, participants choose a numbered pingpong ball to place in the Rube Goldberg-style tumbler constructed by RGS artists Ross Smart and Rob Thomson.

Attendees are invited to come early to preview the many works and make a list of favorites while enjoying refreshments and conversation.

The giant tumbler starts to spin at 6:15 p.m. When a number is picked out of the tumbler, the winner selects a painting from those still available and takes it off the wall. Swapping art with others during the course of the evening is also possible.

The art can be previewed both at rivergalleryschool.org and in the school's Main Street Gallery at 36 Main St. New art arrives right up to the night of the event. The event sold out last year; buying tickets early online ensures a spot.
