Remember those who served in Vietnam

March 29 is Vietnam Veterans Day. It marks the day in 1973 that the last U.S. combat troops were withdrawn from Vietnam and the last prisoners of war held in North Vietnam arrived on U.S. soil.

It commemorates the sacrifices of Vietnam veterans and their families and is part of a national effort to recognize the men and women who were denied a proper welcome upon returning home more than 40 years ago.

President Richard Nixon proclaimed the first Vietnam Veterans Day in 1974 and, since then, 42 other states, including Vermont and New Hampshire, as well as Puerto Rico, have enacted legislation and/or resolutions to designate a Vietnam Veterans Day.

Most people don't know that this day exists. And there are those who still don't offer us respect.

I was in “the Nam,” and I'm proud of what I did for the USA. We did what we were told and we are still getting no respect, so I'm trying to change that.

I would like to welcome all Vietnam veterans home. And, if you want to know what you can do for my fellow vets, I would tell you to keep the VA and others informed as to what is going on with us. Get the word out and stop the crap being put upon us, once and for all.
