Elena & Boo return to Jamaica

JAMAICA — Elena & Boo of the Demolition String Band will kick off the Jamaica Town Hall Music Series on May 6.

The New York City-based nationally touring act will share their blend of bluegrass, country, roots, and Americana music in a show that starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Fueled by a shared passion for country, rock 'n roll, bluegrass, and mountain music, Elena Skye and Boo Reiners have led their Demolition String Band for almost two decades, according to a news release.

They have appeared as openers for an eclectic range of acts such as The Avett Brothers, Ryan Adams, Patti Smith, Ricky Skaggs, and Joan Osborne. Elena and Boo will be joined by upright bass player Neil Helme.

Billboard magazine says “Demolition's members are across-the-board connoisseurs: master instrumentalists, lyricists, and entertainers, while Skye is a vocal treasure."

Windham County folks might remember Elena & Boo from the tribute night/fundraisers they have hosted at the Jamaica Town Hall in the past, which included nights honoring Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and Merle Haggard. These popular nights would feature guest singers and musicians from the area and a lot of singing along.

Their latest album, I Wait For The Light, finds Elena and Boo stretching out and mixing it up with many formative influences. Fans will find splashes here and there that may bring to mind Keith Richards, The Ramones, Chrissie Hynde, The Grateful Dead, Patsy Cline, and Neil Young throughout this collection of rockers, ballads, and groovers.
