Walkathon pays tribute to Amber Bernier

BRATTLEBORO — Sunday, June 4, will mark the 12th annual Walk for Amber walkathon, raffle, and dinner.

Amber Bernier was beloved by many in our community. In a continuing effort to honor her memory, friends and family have organized a day of remembrance and fundraising. All funds go to the Amber Bernier Scholarship.

To date, the Walk for Amber scholarship committee has awarded 30 scholarships and over $20,000 to graduating seniors from Brattleboro Union High School and high schools throughout the region.

The 2017 Walk for Amber fundraising started on April 29 with the third StorySlam, the most successful to date. The StorySlam was sponsored by Strolling of the Heifers.

On June 4, at 11 a.m., the walkathon begins at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. Registration opens at 10 a.m. The walk is approximately five miles, passing through Brattleboro neighborhoods and parks. A dinner will follow, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the First Congregational Church at 880 Western Ave., West Brattleboro.

Tristan Toleno's Entera Artisanal Catering, along with friends and family, will provide the meal, which will include pulled pork, pasta dishes, and homemade desserts and salads. Musical entertainment will be provided by Jeff Brewer and Daniel Kasnitz, with a special appearance by the a cappella group Renegade.

Tickets for the dinner will be available at the door, with a suggested donation of $10 per person. The raffle and prize drawing will take place at the dinner. This year there is a special prize of a $150 gift certificate from the Marina Restaurant that will be raffled separately, available to walkers and dinner guests only. All proceeds from the walkathon, dinner, and raffle will go to the Amber Bernier Scholarship Fund.

Any questions or takeout food orders may be directed to Amber's parents at 802-579-8043.
