Town receives highway grants

PUTNEY — PUTNEY - The Agency of Transportation awarded the town two grants totaling $28,000 through the Better Roads Program.

An $8,000 grant will fund a mandatory road erosion inventory, and town officials will work with the Windham Regional Commission to complete the study.

The remaining $20,000 will support an erosion mitigation project on Sand Hill Road. This project involves creating drainage to divert sediment into a settlement pond to keep it out of the wetland.

Both grants require a funding match, but that requirement will be satisfied by municipal employees' labor, Town Manager Cynthia Stoddard said at the May 24 regular Selectboard meeting.

The Selectboard authorized Stoddard to sign the grant agreements.
