Where’s Waldo? In Wilmington.

Classic book character celebrates 30 years in event to support the Shop Local Movement

WILMINGTON — Where's Waldo? In Wilmington, of course!

The iconic children's book character in the striped shirt and black-rimmed specs will visit 25 local businesses throughout the community in July. Find Waldo Local is both a great summer vacation activity and a way to support local businesses and the Shop Local movement in Wilmington.

Pick up a “Find Waldo Local in Wilmington!” passport at Bartleby's Books. Passports contain the names of all sites where participants may get their passports stamped or signed for each Waldo they spot.

Collecting store stamps or initials at 10 or more businesses will entitle diligent seekers to enter a grand-prize drawing at the Blueberry Block Party on Aug. 5, with the top prize being a six-volume deluxe set of Waldo books and a Bartleby's gift card.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Where's Waldo? books. Martin Handford's collections of crowd scenes swept the world in the late '80s, and have held a cherished spot on bookstore shelves ever since.

To celebrate this milestone, Waldo's friend Wenda will also be hiding in Bartleby's Books here in Wilmington.

There is no charge to participate, and the hunt lasts for the entire month of July.
