Valley Cares’ annual benefit concert highlights local talent

TOWNSHEND — On Saturday, July 29, Valley Cares' board of directors will host their annual benefit concert on the Townshend Common.

This year the concert will feature four lively local favorites: Tuesday Night Town Hall Boys, Turkey Buzzards, Brassa, and The Merry Pranksters.

The bands will perform from 4 to 7 p.m. This is a family-friendly event that will be fun for all. Concert admission is free, but donations are appreciated. Popcorn, baked goods and other food will be for sale on site. If it rains, the concert will be held in the Townshend Town Hall.

This is the third summer Valley Cares has hosted a public concert on Townshend Common. Proceeds from the concert will go toward the improvement of accessible outdoor opportunities at West River Valley Senior Housing, as they did last year.

“Last summer's concert was a great success,” Jean Allbee, chair of Valley Cares' board of directors, said in a news release. “With the money we raised, we were able to resurface the walking paths and purchase six new benches for the grounds.”

This year, Valley Cares is hoping to purchase distance signage for an outdoor exercise circuit and continue to improve the walking paths.
