BMC program introduces kids to magic of music, movement

BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Music Center's popular Movin' Into Music program returns this month - and the first class is free.

Geared toward children ages 1 to 5 and their parents or caregivers, the program offers fun and original music classes that include singing, dancing, musical games, and a variety of props. Siblings and drop-ins are welcome, and the program is ongoing, so registrations are accepted at any time.

Main sessions are held Fridays starting Oct. 20, from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the Brattleboro Music Center, 72 Blanche Moyse Way (across from Living Memorial Park). The instructor is Kim Wallach, a longtime elementary music educator and well known folksinger and songwriter.

Whether a child is outgoing or shy, the program provides an outlet.

“Children gather information in many different ways depending on their age, temperament, and mood at any given moment. Some are active and others, reflective. Some watch, some direct, and some do their own thing entirely,” Wallach said in a news release.

“The goal is a balanced environment that encourages each child to explore music and movement in his or her own way as well as provide a structure that invites group awareness and participation. The great thing about music is that it is absorbed on so many levels all at once!”
