In-Sight brings world-class photographic art to Brattleboro

Celebrates 25 years of helping youth with photography exhibition, benefit auction

BRATTLEBORO — More than 250 works by over 200 international, national, and local photographers will be on view for bidding from Friday, Nov. 3, at 5:30 p.m. through Sunday, Nov. 26, when In-Sight Photography Project once again brings its stunning eye-opener of a photography exhibition and benefit auction to Brattleboro.

The Vermont Center for Photography, In-Sight's neighbor at 49 Flat St., will host the 24-day exhibition in its gallery daily between noon and 5 p.m. The show and auction will also be available online at www.insightphotography.org/auction2017.

In-Sight celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2017. Its commitment throughout the years has been to ensure that its programs are available to all young people in the community, regardless of ability to pay.

Largely through the generosity of the photographers, gallery owners, collectors, and lovers of the photographic arts who have contributed to In-Sight's exhibition and benefit auction, In-Sight has kept that commitment. All proceeds from the auction will go to the In-Sight Scholarship Fund.

In a news release, In-Sight Founding Director John Willis said “artists - be they painters, musicians, photographers, or crafts people in any number of disciplines - are often asked to donate art for causes, as if it's easy to do and doesn't cost them. In reality, it is frequently at great financial cost and effort that they donate - and do so only because they believe in the program or the cause.”

This year, the In-Sight exhibition and auction will include works representing a full range of photographers, some internationally recognized, such as Alex Webb, Rebecca Norris-Webb, Emmet Gowin, John Willis, Laura McPhee, Nathan Lyons, Mark Shaw, David Hilliard, Magdalena Sole, Godfrey Frankel, Sebastiao Salgado, Justin Kimball, Kevin Bubriski, and many others.

“Supporting our community and especially the arts - which are such a big part of our daily lives - has always been a priority for our family,” says Juliet Cuming, Director of the Mark Shaw Photographic Archive in Dummerston, and a frequent contributor to the event.

To add to the festive spirit in 2017, In-Sight is running a special 25th Anniversary Photographic Print Raffle featuring the work of nature conservation photographer James Balog and Finnish-American photographer Arno Rafael Minkkinen.

Each is a framed, museum-quality print valued at $3,000. Tickets are available online at www.insightphotography.org - $25 for one, and $100 for five. The drawing will take place at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 26. Ticketholders need not be present.
