Lenois to lead roundtable on state of news media

BRATTLEBORO — A roundtable discussion on “The State of the Media 2017” will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at noon, at the Robert H. Gibson River Garden, 137 Main St. The event is part of the Brown Bag Lunch series presented by Strolling of the Heifers.

Longtime radio talk show host Chris Lenois, associate director of marketing communications at Landmark College, will moderate the discussion, which will include representatives of most area media organizations.

Participants will include Kevin Moran, executive editor of New England Newspapers, Inc. (publishers of the Brattleboro Reformer); Greg Sukiennik, NENI's managing editor for Vermont; Jeff Potter, editor and operations director of The Commons; Randy Holhut, news editor of The Commons; Olga Peters, host of Green Mountain Mornings on WKVT; Tim Johnson Arsenault, longtime WTSA newscaster; Roland Boyden, production manager at Brattleboro Community Television; and Martin Langeveld, NENI board member and former Reformer publisher.

The event will have a roundtable format, with the public invited to listen as well as to bring questions and comments.

The focus is on the local news ecosystem: How well it is serving the public? Is it economically sustainable? What new directions should it be taking? How is the nature of local journalism changing? And, given the trends toward digital and streaming delivery and consumption of local news, what business models can sustain journalism going forward?

The session is free and open to the public.
