With new museum, railroad continues to connect our communities

NEWFANE — A heartfelt thank you to all the individuals, businesses and organizations who generously contributed to the restoration of the 1880 Newfane Railroad Station and to the establishment of the West River Railroad Museum.

The Historical Society of Windham County set an ambitious goal three years ago when the station was purchased and restoration began. If not for the in-kind help and financial support of the special community we have here, it's doubtful the Society would have met that goal.

It was an honor to host 250 guests at the grand opening of the West River Railroad Museum on Oct. 14.

Just as it did 140 years ago, the West River Railroad continues to connect our communities from Brattleboro, “up the Gauge” (as they said in the days of West River Railroad) to South Londonderry and beyond. Already, the Society has received requests to visit the new museum from school groups and from railroad and Vermont history enthusiasts.

From all of us at the Historical Society of Windham County, thank you for helping to save this piece of our County's history. We look forward to hosting your visits to the new museum next Spring.
