WARDSBORO — Elaine Gilman and John Hagearty are the Wardsboro Public Library's Artists of the Month for December. Both are residents of West Wardsboro and have been for the past 30 years. Gilman's art is in fiber and Hagearty's in watercolor.
Gilman, an avid quilt collector, has owned two shops in the midwest and has exhibited in shows in and around Vermont, particularly in Wardsboro on the Fourth of July.
Her primary focus this year is centered on her evening bags made from ribbon and vintage fabric. Her handcrafted ribbon Christmas trees and ribbon Christmas ball ornaments will make great decorations and gifts this season.
Hagearty, an accomplished, renowned, and self-taught watercolorist, will exhibit his original work and prints at the library. These works depict local and whimsical scenes. Most of his subject material is focused on old barns, churches, and general Vermont landscape.
His work has been seen at many Vermont galleries and shows and especially in Wardsboro at the Fourth of July celebration. All are matted and some are framed. Both artists' pieces are for sale and purchases can be made by contacting them directly.
Their art will be displayed for the month of December during library hours - Mondays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 2 to 7 p.m.; and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
