Rec. Dept. offers programs to chase away winter blues

BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Recreation & Parks Dept. continues to host many popular ongoing classes that run through the end of April at the Gibson-Aiken Center, 207 Main St.:

• Zumba: Mondays & Thursdays 5:30–6:30 p.m. in the Gibson-Aiken gymnasium; Zumba is the Latin Dance Fitness program that gets participants moving to international rhythms and Latin beats.

This workout is suitable for all levels and will give you cardiovascular and body-shaping benefits while strengthening your core and increasing your balance. Emily Mcloughlin is the instructor. The cost of the program is $5 per class for residents and $7 per class for non-residents; also there is a 10-session punch card for $50 residents/$70 non-residents.

• Running Fist Kung Fu Class: This program is being held in the Blue Room on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. You may register at any time and join the class. Sikung Lew Henderson, the instructor, has studied martial arts for nearly 40 years.

Running Fist is an eclectic style of Kung Fu taught through a series of concepts rather than a technical approach of martial arts. This approach ensures that the student can easily adapt to the variables of a given situation. The classes are run as month-to-month lessons and are $85 per month for residents and $110 for non-residents. For information and registration, contact Henderson at 802-365-4514 or [email protected].

• Adult (out of high school) Co-ed Volleyball is offered Thursday evenings from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The cost per night is $3 for Brattleboro residents and $5 for non-residents or there is a new 10-session punch card available for residents ($30) and non-residents ($50). This punch card can also be used for Badminton and Pickleball.

This is a freelance program with no instructor. Pick-up games will be played.

All levels and abilities are welcome. Participants must wear sneakers and bring their own racquet. The cost per night is $3 for Brattleboro residents and $5 for non-residents.
