BRATTLEBORO — On Saturday, Feb. 10, at 9 a.m., Brooks Memorial Library invites families with children age 2 to 7 to attend a special Valentine's Day event in honor of the life and legacy of local children's author/illustrator Anna Dewdney, creator of the memorable Llama Llama Red Pajama series as well as a number of other beloved children's books.
The event, which features Valentine's Day crafts, a visit from Llama Llama, story time and breakfast snacks, takes place on the library's third floor, an hour earlier than the library's usual opening time.
All children are welcome to wear their PJs and have their pictures taken with Llama Llama and explore the world of unique characters created by the award-winning author/illustrator Anna Dewdney, who lived in Windham County since high school. Children will take home free books by Dewdney, courtesy of Friends of Brooks Memorial Library, while supplies last.
“Anna Dewdney is renowned for her belief that empathy skills can be imparted through engaged reading to children at a very young age,” Starr LaTronica, Director of Brooks Memorial Library, said in a news release. “[This] event recognizes Anna's passion and commitment to making reading a fun, participatory time for both parents and children.”
Breakfast goodies will be provided by The Works, Brattleboro Food Co-op, Commonwealth Creamery, and members of the Fine Arts Committee. Friends of Brooks Memorial Library are providing free Anna Dewdney books as giveaways as well as underwriting the appearance of the Llama Llama character.
