Jody Normandeau, Dummerston School Board

DUMMERSTON — I am a candidate for the remaining one year of a three-year term on the Dummerston School Board.

As a lifelong resident of the area, after graduating from Brattleboro Union High School, I left the area thinking I would not come back. However, after eight years away, Vermont beckoned to me, and I was able to return.

In 1970, my husband and I were fortunate to be able to move to Dummerston to raise our family. We have two sons who attended the Dummerston School and are graduates of BUHS. At present, we are so lucky to have two granddaughters attending our school.

I am a strong advocate for local schools, and my interest in education spans many years. Having served on our school board, both as a member and as chair, and having been a volunteer in the school in many areas, I have continued to go to board meetings on and off and have been attending steadily for the last two years.

I also have attended, and have been active at, most of the Act 46 Study Committee meetings over the last 2{1/2} years. I serve as one of the representatives of Dummerston on the Windham Southeast Supervisory Union Alternative Governance Committee, which is making a presentation to the state to be able to retain our school, our local school board, and the values of our community, as well as our present supervisory union.

Because the Alternative Governance Structure proposal will be in process for this coming year, I feel that it is important for me to continue working for what is best for our students and our community.

Having been involved, over the years, with the School Board, I am very familiar with the budgeting process and the many issues that have come before it.

Dummerston's community school is a very special place. We are fortunate to have an excellent principal and high-quality teachers. They all make all of our students feel like family and see to it that they are well-prepared for their years at BUHS and beyond.

I also have the time and energy to devote to helping to maintain the high-quality education our administration and board have provided for our children.

Please consider my candidacy and vote for me on Town Meeting Day on Tuesday, March 6.
