Main Street Arts to hold auditions for two musicals

SAXTONS RIVER — Main Street Arts will hold combined open auditions for their next two musical theater productions - Chicago and Charles Henry's Final Curtain - on Thursday, Aug. 23, from 6 to 9 p.m., and Saturday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 35 Main St. in Saxtons River.

Those interested in auditioning should bring something prepared to sing, along with the sheet music for the music director, who will accompany performers. Attendees may be asked to read from a script and to sing a piece from one of the shows, which will be taught at the audition.

There will be dance auditions for which the group will be taught a combination. Those auditioning should wear clothes that support movement. Special skills in circus arts, tumbling, and playing an instrument are of great interest for both productions.

Charles Henry's Final Curtain is a new, original vaudeville piece centered on the final performance of the itinerant playwright, scenic painter, and family vaudeville troupe leader, Charles Henry. The production opens in November at MSA.

Chicago, the popular Broadway and film musical with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and book by Ebb and Bob Fosse, is scheduled to be performed in March of 2019 at the Bellows Falls Opera House.
