WHITINGHAM — On Oct. 6, the Whitingham-Halifax Lions Club will bring the joyful sound of bluegrass to the Deerfield Valley as the Zink and Company Band takes the stage in Readsboro Lions Park from 1 to 5 p.m.
Admission is $15 per person and $25 for couples. Children under 12 are admitted free. All proceeds will benefit children with cancer, including one local family with a child currently in treatment.
Nicole Covey and her family are lifelong residents of the area. A few short months after having a child, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
Her willingness to fight and beat this is evident, but the financial burdens that go along with the treatments, lack of ability to continue to work, and her new child, along with her 8-year-old daughter, are why it is a great opportunity for everyone to show her and her family just what community is all about by gathering to support this fundraiser.
Throughout the event there will be a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle. All of those proceeds will go directly to Nicole. Proceeds from admission will be split between Nicole and the Juvenile cancer fund.
Donations for the auction can be dropped off with Almira Aekus, First Stop Convenience, or through any Lions club member. Tickets to the event are also available through these avenues.
Zink and Company, one of New England's premier bluegrass bands, is known for its “get up and dance” feel-good music, and has developed an enthusiastic fan base in the region.
Concertgoers may also bring drinks, a cooler, or a picnic lunch; limited food will be available at the event for purchase. General parking is available on Route 100; a limited number of spaces are available at the park itself for those with special needs, through the gate off Branch Hill Road.
