BRATTLEBORO — Local residents wishing to rid their homes of old cleaners under the sink or automotive fluids in the garage can gather up their household hazardous wastes and bring them to Windham Solid Waste Management District's annual hazardous waste collection event.
Collections will be held on Oct. 27, from 8 a.m. until noon, at the Readsboro Central School on Phelps Lane in Readsboro and at the WSWMD headquarters on Old Ferry Road in Brattleboro.
The collection is open to residents, businesses, and institutions in the Windham Solid Waste Management District. For residents, there is a limit of 10 gallons per household and a $5 fee to participate.
Businesses and institutions can take part in the event for a small fee. Business must pre-register for the event by contacting Programs Manager Kristen Benoit at 802-257-0272, ext. 113. or [email protected].
Aerosols, automotive fluids, household cleaners, pool chemicals, and pesticides can be brought to the collection points.
Paint products, ammunition, batteries, electronic waste, explosives, fireworks, medical waste, mercury-containing devices, or radioactive wastes shouldn't be brought.
Residents and businesses are encouraged not to bring paint products, such as primers, sealers, stains, enamels, varnishes, and oil-based and latex paints to the hazardous waste event, but instead to the year-round WSWMD drop-off center on Old Ferry Road in Brattleboro.
