Carol sing will usher in the holiday season

This year’s event will benefit Deerfield Valley Rescue

WILMINGTON — St. Mary's in the Mountains invites everyone to help welcome in the holiday season with its third annual Red Door Community Carol Sing on the afternoon of Saturday, Dec. 1.

All are invited to join the community in celebrating the season, singing traditional carols and seasonal favorites, and enjoying musical performances by Deerfield Valley musicians, as well as “tasty treats and surprises,” event organizers write.

The red doors of the church at 13 East Main St. will open at 3:15 p.m., with hot drinks, gingerbread, cookies, and other treats available.

Beginning at 3:30 p.m., singers and musical ensembles will offer choral, traditional, and some new music of the season in a wide variety of styles.

Then, starting at 4 p.m., the audience is invited to join in singing Christmas Carols and seasonal songs. Most have long been part of this time of year, but a few new ones, as well as some nontraditional arrangements of some classics, will be part of the mix.

Lyric books will be available for all, and interspersed with the sing-along will be short performances by Valley musicians of seasonal music in a wide variety of styles.

The Carol Sing is the 10th in St. Mary's' series of Red Door Concerts this year, each of which has raised money for local organizations that help our friends and neighbors.

This year, the Carol Sing supports Deerfield Valley Rescue, which since 1974 has provided pre-hospital emergency medical care to residents in this area. Its two full-time employees and approximately 25 volunteers staff ambulances 24 hours a day and provide critical, time-sensitive help to the region.
