Cold leaves late this week; milder pattern begets weekend showers

Good day to you, people of southern Vermont! I am getting over being under the weather this past week. Surfacing from such early season sickness is always appreciated, and I hope you find yourself feeling well.

Speaking of feeling well, our comparatively abundant sunshine of recent days surely has been well received! We do have a couple of more partly to mostly sunny days to enjoy, but some mid-December storminess will arrive late Friday and last into the weekend before we dry out by early next week.

Our pattern is changing to a milder Pacific flow, and some mixed rain and snow can be expected late Friday night and Saturday morning. Having painted the picture, let's dive into the details!

For Wednesday, a final fresh injection of colder Canadian air will advect into the region, causing high temperatures to only rise into the upper 20s under mostly sunny skies. Northwest winds may gust to 25 mph at times, and we can expect lows to dip into the high single digits to low teens.

For Thursday, a weak system will zip through our region and bring the chance for a snow shower. We can expect partly sunny skies with highs again in the upper 20s and lows in the high teens.

For Friday, our weather pattern will be changing as a milder Pacific flow pushes into and through southern Vermont. Highs will reach the upper 30s to low 40s under partly sunny skies, and increasing clouds late in the day.

A storm system will be approaching from the southwest. Depending on the timing of precipitation, we could see a mix of rain and snow at night, with snow possible in the higher elevations of western Windham County. Lows should drop to near freezing.

For Saturday, we should see snow changing over to rain showers that should last for at least the first half of the day as the system moves through the region. Highs will reach the low 40s with lows near freezing as a few rain and snow showers linger.

For Sunday through Tuesday, we should enjoy at least partly sunny skies with highs in the upper 30s and lows in the 20s. However, a few showers may linger into Sunday as well before drier weather moves in for early next week. Have a great week!
