State Police plan sobriety checkpoint

WESTMINSTER - During the next two weeks, Vermont State Police from the Westminster barracks, along with local law enforcement officers, will conduct a sobriety checkpoint within Windham County.

State police say that “an aggressive effort will be made to identify impaired drivers on our highways. Troopers will also be enforcing seat belt use, child restraint, and other motor vehicle law violations during this checkpoint.”

Free produce distribution in Putney

PUTNEY - All are welcome to come for free produce and some nonperishable items distributed by the Vermont Foodbank and the Putney Foodshelf. This event is open to anyone in the community. Please bring your own shopping bags.

The next Food Drop will take place on Thursday, Dec. 20, from 9 to 9:45 a.m., at Putney Meadows, 17 Carol Brown Way (white building across from the Putney Co-op and the Putney Fire Station).

Brattleboro reps launch monthly conversation series

BRATTLEBORO - On Dec. 20, Brattleboro's three members of the Vermont House of Representatives will host the first in a series of monthly conversations.

Emilie Kornheiser, Molly Burke, and Tristan Toleno will talk about priorities for the year, and explore new policy ideas.

This month's sessions will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. at Amy's Bakery on Main Street, and from 6 to 8 p.m., at Brooks Memorial Library. Childcare is available for the evening meeting upon request at [email protected].

Senior meal in Halifax

HALIFAX - The next monthly Halifax senior meal is Friday, Dec. 21, at noon, at the community hall located at 20 Brook Road in West Halifax.

On the menu is turkey pot pie, potatoes, vegetables, and dessert. All seniors are welcome. A call to Joan at 802-368-7733 is appreciated.

Strolling of the Heifers to host Holiday Pop-Up Gift Shop

BRATTLEBORO - Strolling of the Heifers will host a Holiday Pop-Up Gift Shop in the River Garden (157 Main Street) on Friday, Dec. 21, from 1 to 5 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 22, from noon to 4 p.m. Products from over 40 local artisans will be available for purchase.

“Everyone is welcome to come to the River Garden for a magical shopping experience inspired by European holiday markets,” said Orly Munzing, executive director of Strolling of the Heifers, in a news release. “We have so many talented and creative entrepreneurs in this region, and this weekend the River Garden will be bustling with over 40 amazing vendors to shop from.”

History center temporarily closed

BRATTLEBORO - The Brattleboro Historical Society history center and museum, 196 Main St., will be closed through Jan. 24.
