Brattleboro School of Dance announces open auditions for annual Spring Show

BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro School of Dance, 22 High St., invites all interested dancers in the community to attend its open audition on Feb. 2 for their annual Spring Show to be held May 17 through 19 at New England Youth Theatre.

According to a news release, this year's show will “explore the 'topsy turvy' world we live in through dances that experiment with irrational subject matter, illusions, magic-realism, and distortion.” They are looking “for versatile and enthusiastic dancers aged 7 (or enrolled in Ballet I) through adults with varied levels of training in ballet, modern, and hip hop.”

The audition schedule is as follows: 2 p.m., 7 to 10 year olds; 3 p.m., youths, teens, and adults; 4:30 p.m., pointe dancers. Use backdoor entrance up the hill on Green Street and come a bit early to register and warm up.

Dress should be appropriate to the type of dance you are trying out for, including footwear. Be prepared to list rehearsal schedule conflicts. Organizers are looking for a high level of commitment regarding rehearsal attendance.

A $40 payment is required for each dancer at the audition. This is a down payment on the performance fee, which is $40 for each piece you are cast in. (All auditioners will be cast in at least one piece.) This pays choreographers for their original works and professional level rehearsals and performance instruction.
