Chamber to hold panel discussion on the business of cannabis

BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Area Chamber of Commerce invites the public to attend “The Growing Business of Cannabis: A panel discussion on the ins and outs of the cannabis industry.”

This Chamber Breakfast Series event will take place in Brattleboro on Thursday, Sept. 5, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., at American Legion Post 5, 32 Linden St. Tickets are $20 and include a full buffet breakfast. RSVP is required.

The state of Vermont legalized the sale of medical marijuana in 2004, but cannabis remains illegal under federal law. And while the Vermont Legislature has been debating a tax-and-regulate system for retail sales, no bill has passed both chambers.

The discussion will explore the future of the cannabis industry in Vermont, where it is now, where it's going, and what it means for the local economy and communities.

Topics will include banking and finance, education, advertising, regulation, and current and future state and federal laws. The panel will take questions from the audience.

The panel includes Bridget Conry, director of marketing for Champlain Valley Dispensary; Senate Majority Leader Becca Balint, D-Windham; Cary Giguere, director, Public Health, Agricultural Resource Management, Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets; David Harlow, an attorney for Downs Rachlin Martin PLLC; Cassandra Holloway, director of the Brattleboro Area Prevention Coalition; state Sen. Jeanette White, D-Windham, chair of the Government Operations Committee; and Dan Yates, president and CEO of Brattleboro Savings & Loan.

Those interested in attending should RSVP to the Brattleboro Area Chamber of Commerce at 802-254-4565 or [email protected].
